"You know what? Not just your mother, but even your father, brother and sister-in-law, all are disgusting! They are nothing but monsters in the disguise of humans! No matter how much rich poor people get it cannot change their class! They are low-" a tight blow on her cheek stopped her from uttering more disgraceful words from her mouth. Getting out of the shock of the slap on her face she thought, What did I do? How can I utter such words from my mouth! "I told you never... Never insult my parents, didn't I? You lost the respect I had for you!"
Tagging as a characterless girl by her fiancé, their engagement was called off. She was broken but was strong. It had been 9 years of her broken engagement but she still has feelings for her ex-fiancé even though her self-respect was crushed by him. After 9 years he is back and decides to make her his woman. Not because of his love for her, but for his evil motive.
"Who husband? Which husband are you talking about?" His brown eyes started to get darker. "Why are you talking like that? It's you who is my husband! We got married just a few days back!" Angry tears blurred her vision. Letting a humorous chuckle out, he marched towards her, "We got married? Really? Don't tell me you believed in that stupid fake wedding." "Are you out of your mind! Stupid fake wedding?! How can you call it a fake wedding when all the rituals were performed and we got married in the witness of God-Goddess, nature and all the people present there?" Those tears finally left her eyes. "You silly girl, you know it very well why in the first place we are here and in which situation we went through that stupid wedding! That wedding holds no place for me. Do you get that?" His nose was flaring with anger. "Stop! Please stop it! Are you even listening to yourself? You are calling our marriage stupid and on top of that, you are saying it holds no place for you. How could you!" She started throwing punches on his chest with her tiny fist making him angrier. He increased the hold of his handle on his sword, trying to control himself. "Fine! Our wedding holds no place for you, right? Then what was that which happened on our wedding night? Why did you claim your husbandly rights on me? Why did you consummate our marriage?" She roared with anger and pain. The wind suddenly started to increase its pace. The dark sky darkens more. The already cold weather became chilling cold. Leaves and soil started to fly with the breeze. The atmosphere became very scary but she was so immersed in her pain to notice it. "Tell me why? Huh, why? Don't you have an answer to it?" She was abruptly stopped as her legs didn't touch the ground. Her back touched the tree, legs floating in the air as her neck was grabbed by his one hand. He lost it. He was unable to control himself, his anger... his true self.
Getting dressed I grabbed the hodni (scarf) as a mere source to cover my shame, he pulled me out of the room. With the pain all over my body especially the lower body, I wasn't able to walk; matching his speed was out of the question. I pleaded with him to stop, to have mercy on me but just like last night, my words were sent to deaf ears. Not able to match his pace, my steps were misplaced making me fall but it didn't stop him. He dragged me down the stairs in the same state injuring my entire body. I cried helplessly but none of his family members had even a hint of guilt. Everyone's eyes hold only one emotion for me which is disgust. Sitting on a knee he grabbed my hair in a painful grip and the words that came out of his mouth were something which I never expected. "The biggest mistake I've made in my life is, loving you." He said while tears flowed from his eyes. ••• Malika Adsule, a Clinical Researcher, is a quiet girl but for her close people, she is everything but quiet.
